We lead off this week with Alibaba (the HUGE IPO last week). Did you miss it? Should you learn how to buy in? The host of the Be Wealthy and Smart Podcast, Linda P. Jones joins Greg and Len on our shortwave roundtable this week to discuss retirement, active ETFs and 5 big mistakes first time homebuyers make.

Listener Brett asks us about business transitions. How do you make sure that when a founder leaves a business it still runs well? Is there a way to set up a smooth transition?

We also review a film, take another great listener letter about target date funds, and much more.

It's a special Short Stack today, because OG's in the basement (on a Friday!) and he's answering your questions. So we tackle a BUNCH of letters on today's show. You'll love it. We'll talk about adding dividends to your portfolio, give you our thoughts about the Folio investing system and discuss individual stocks in general.

Then we'll turn briefly to loan sharks from Poland.

BUT we turn back on our thinking caps and tackle a question from a listener who wants to know about pension options. If you have a pension we'll talk about how to calculate whether it's better to take a lump sum or the pension.

Finally, we tackle mortgages. Which one's better....a 15 or 30?

How's your personal brand? Shannon Oleen is our guest today and she's going to help you earn more money. How? Look at yourself. Are you presenting the best "you" that's possible? Probably not. If I'm right, then today's episode is exactly for you!

Shannon Oleen

Shannon's going to teach you to focus on your personal brand and how you can present yourself in a way that you can earn more money. Sound good? Oh, that's just the beginning.

Joe & OG tackle the headlines, answer your questions AND review a new-to-Netflix movie.....and more.

I'm so fired up about this episode, I'm just waiting for you to hit play....hit it! You're gonna love Shannon Oleen.

Deacon Hayes from The Well Kept Wallet podcast joins Paula Pant (Afford Anything) and Greg McFarlane (Control Your Cash) on our roundtable today. They discuss credit unions using lottery tactics to get people to save....good idea or just creating more gamblers? They also tackle pensions. Are they a ponzi scheme? Finally, they each take a stab about individual stocks....if you're given some stock and suddenly it falls, do you sell or hold? Of course, they don't agree....

BUT the heart of our episode this week comes from YOU. Anita writes a letter we address asking if it's really worth it to pay an advisor 1% if you're in a 401k, properly diversified and heading in the right direction? Can an advisor really add enough value to make a difference? Our answer? Maybe, maybe not. BUT to learn why we answer that way, you'll have to check out the show!

Of course, Doug brings trivia, we tackle some interesting headlines, and much more.

Greg McFarlane from Control Your Cash joins us to talk financial planning. What do you need to know to put your financial house in order? If you know Greg, you know he has a different opinion than you've heard, yet you also know that.....he's right on the money. Greg explains the concepts in his money management philosophy: buy assets (not what you think), sell liabilities (kind of what you think) and manage your resources effectively (again, not what you think).

This is a fun, insightful interview with a guy we've spent a ton of time with on Stacking Benjamins, but haven't really gotten to dig deep with until today.

Today it's your show! We answer five listener letters on today's episode with wide-ranging questions like, "How should I pay for grad school," "how do I upgrade my house," "Why is taking a 401k loan bad" and "How should I take an adoption credit?"

Our headlines include plenty of peeks into the magic 8 ball about the stock market the next few months and another look at drug stocks. Remember the discussion a few episodes about buying a stock based on a new drug? We have another example why that's a bad idea today.

PK tells us why a famous Peter Lynch quote is often misquoted and why you NEED to know the real meaning of what he said. Doug brings the trivia. We dive deep into Netflix streaming territory with today's Netflix review: Charade starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Two classic stars for a classic episode of Stacking Benjamins!

Miss us? We're kickin' off another 8 weeks by answering an awesome listener question about MLM programs. Are they a scam? Len and Paula tackle flipping houses (people say you can make $100k+ by flipping), couple's disagreements about money and the fact that the average person as 1/3 less net worth than 10 years ago.

We also discuss some great headlines, review a new film, endure Doug's trivia, and much much more...all with our shirts pulled up.

Autumn the intern spend her last day in the director's chair rewinding to an early episode where we have a rare interview with Pauline Paquin from Reach Financial Independence. Pauline moved from France to Guatemala and rarely has a decent internet connection, so we were happy to be able to get her on the line while she was traveling (the connection is still spotty....but her thoughts and advice will be worth the trouble).

Sep 3, 2014

Our intern Autumn rewinds to last Thanksgiving to play the especially fun and interesting Black Friday episode (this episode was listed by Stitcher as a "must listen" episode for holiday shopping.

Autumn the intern takes over today and shares a show from a year ago, the Top 5 Financial Moves to Make Right Now. A year later, you can see if we were right!
